jQuery International

Posted on by

If there’s anything that’s apparent from watching the jQuery mailing list and jQuery-related blog posts on Technorati, it’s that there’s a huge international audience for the library.

As I’ve been working on the new version of the web site (to be released together with the upcoming version 1.0 of jQuery) I’ve had a number of offers from users to translate documentation and blog posts into their native language. I cannot express how pleased I am by this.

I have two questions for all the jQuery users out there: If you are fluent in language other than English, would you be willing to help translate alternate versions of blog posts or documentation? If you are, please respond to this post so that I can get a feel for everyone who is interested and what languages are represented.

Secondly, if you speak a language other than English (but may, or may not, be able to help translate), please let me know what language you would like to see the jQuery site in:

Which language should jQuery Documentation be in? (Besides English)

Thank you, everyone, for your input – it’s greatly appreciated.

(by the way, the Internationalization module for Drupal is very cool)

  1. I’ll say Chinese.

If you cover both English and Chinese, then you can cover most of the globe language speaking.

Unfortunately, the number of Chinese users liable to use jQuery is probably small. Therefore, I’d say Dutch or German.

  2. to Dan Atkinson,

I agree with you. But perhaps the reason of less Chinese user is lacking of Chinese documentation, you know, English is a big obstacle to Chinese users.

So, if possible, I’d love to translate jQuery documentation into Chinese.

I know Russian very well and can easily translate from English to Russian. Please consider me.

  5. Just as side note, the largest number of hits on the Visual jQuery site from a single city in Bejing. So there are Chinese folks using jQuery.

  6. Интересный пост, спасибо вам. Меня интересует вопрос – будет ли продолжение? :)

I’d like to contribute translating the documentation to Portuguese. There’s a huge comunity of coders in Brazil and also Portugal and 10 more countries that has no access to the docs in them native language, Help us to learn and diffuse such a nice lib around the world. It’s the fifth internet users population, and fifth spoken language in the world, consider it.
